So Friday eve we were making some mac and cheese and I realized I had no bacon. That might seem strange for me to be out of bacon, I am just saving a lot of it for other things. I did remember that I had some in the freezer I had picked up on my first time at Whole foods. Wellshire bacon is free of nitrates, nitrites, antibiotics, hormones, preservatives and artificial ingredients.
The package was 18 ounces and contained only 7 pieces. They were more like bacon steaks at almost 1/4 inch thick. I started frying 3 pieces in the cast iron, but that just was not going to work so in the oven they went. Took about 30 minutes at 300 degrees in the toaster oven.
It is really good tasting, but just too thick. We made it through about 1.5 pieces for the mac and cheese. Breakfast the next day I could not make it through my 2nd piece. Just too much.
Feel kinda strange posting this after the heart walk post 😉
