 Meet and greet part II?

Filed under: internets, lincoln sites — beerorkid @ Oct 30th, 2007

Oh the chatter around the internets is all “when is the next BorK meet and greet?” It is getting old, let me tell ya ;) Really though maybe we should meet up again sometime. Ghogan and I chatted about it a bit and came up with a few ideas.

If interested vote and feel free to offer other ideas. Maybe a weekend, or lunch somewhere, involve an outing. Who knows. Just putting it out there for ya.
As always extended to any other site around these parts. Potluck? At least a few weeks out for sure.

 The Devil’s Food Dictionary

Filed under: Links, food, humor, internets — jschwa @ Oct 12th, 2007

tofu
Also called bean curd, tofu is a custardlike
substance of variable firmness that is made
from curdled soy milk. This Chinese invention,
dating back to time immemorial give or take a
couple of centuries, is much venerated and
expertly utilized in Chinese and Japanese cuisines,
among others. However, many Westerners are
unaware of this impressive pedigree; otherwise,
they would not put it into casseroles containing
tortilla chips and marinara sauce.
Bean curd is extremely perishable, with a highly
delicate molecular structure that begins to
deteriorate the moment it is out of earshot of
East Asian languages. Proof of this is found in
the fact that much American-made tofu is nearly
tasteless, much like the Americans who eat
it because they believe it will make them
better people.
Nutritionally speaking, tofu is a nearly ideal
food, brimming with protein, low in calories, and
cholesterol-free. Furthermore, it is extremely
versatile, and while the Chinese and Japanese
have developed its use to an exquisitely
sophisticated level, Americans should feel free
to experiment with it in any way they choose
without referring to longstanding Asian traditions,
as long as they keep in mind that the dishes
they create will taste revolting.

From The Devil’s Food Dictionary, probably my favorite food-related site on the internet (aside from this one, of course [oh, and I'm not counting sites whisky-related because of, well, booze]). The original The Devil’s Dictionary was written around the turn of the last century by Ambrose Bierce who wrote stories that inspired H.P. Lovecraft before going crazy and disappearing in Mexico. Bierce’s dictionary can be viewed online too.

Jake Rhymes With Cake goes (dot)com

Filed under: About, internets, random crap — jake rhymes with cake @ Sep 20th, 2007

I did it, folks. I bought a domain. Now navigating to my blog couldn’t be more simple. That is, as long as you can spell “rhymes” and not “rhythms.” LOL! I’m sure some of you know what I’m referring to.

You used to have to type: http : // jacobhi . blogspot . com to get to my site. (That is TOO MUCH to have to remember.) Now you can simply type: JakeRhymesWithCake.com and you’ll get there! WOO HOO!!

I like feeling official.

 first time online

doritos-trim

Saw a funny post about this on digg and thought I would share mine and maybe get some of yours.

Theresa’s Dad had the internets at his house and we were over there one afternoon and I got my first taste of the internet. I had no clue what to look up so I used spider (there was no google yet) to look up doritos. I found a few things and kept clicking through. Within a few minutes I was on a lesbian porn site and knew the internets were for me.

T’s dad got her a IBM desktop computer and we were blazing the internets at 28.8 bps, and kept going up from there. I was a very early adopter and we had DSL once it came out, then TWC cable which I still use today. Looking forward to getting fiber right to the house though. Oh and within 3 clicks I can still get to lesbian porn ;)

wow my site was down for a long time, that suxd

Filed under: internets, random crap — beerorkid @ Aug 15th, 2007

Dreamhost had some severe issues all day. I still luv them, but it suxd. Heading out for a ride through wilderness which I so fricking need. Been almost a month since I have rolled the MOOTS and gosh darnit I need my church.

I promise the 5 posts a day will be kicking it here soon. Been a pretty messed up month for me.

I send out a huge thanks for you all that post here every now and then. Anything goes as long as it is not against googles codes for their adsense ads which have never paid off for me, but I have invested enough time in them I would love to see them pay off. Basically no porn and I am cool. After I get my $100 they are gone. I really would love for this place to be a community where tons of peeps post stuff all the time. Never feel meek or well BorK might not like this, just post away. I would love for it to be a community. Thanks once again.

My only thing is I might edit it to add a pic. Gosh darnit people like visuals when visiting sites. And as above will show it does not matter one bit what the pic is, it grabbs attention. Might fix links or whatever. I think there are 20 + peeps who can post and edit. I have never declined, deleted, or severely edited a single one.

Possibly a lunch meeting at roost or bread & cup sometime next week via foxspit’s idea (dude seems to love meetings of internets folk, and I am grateful). Seems like a good idea. Will post about it here soon.

 Cats will eat your face

Filed under: Funny Vids, animals, internets — beerorkid @ Aug 8th, 2007

Man this is turning out to be a good day. So looking at my stats program and I love to see how folks find me via google. This might be my favorite so far. I need to be result #1 though.

From here

In my experience, a dog may go for several days before finally resorting to eating the owner’s body. A cat, on the other hand, will only wait a day or two. Just goes to show you which is more loyal. So, the next time you’re falling asleep on the couch with the football game on, take a look at your cat. He’s not watching you because he’s enamored of you; he’s checking to see if your chest is still moving.”

My obsession with this came from this Malcolm in the middle episode which we just happend to watch last night.

A person with ubuntu is open and available to others, affirming of others, does not feel threatened that others are able and good, for he or she has a proper self-assurance that comes from knowing that he or she belongs in a greater whole and is diminished when others are humiliated or diminished, when others are tortured or oppressed.
