I worked with Phatt, I know his leanings, and really trust him.

SCS voting guide via Phatt

FOR AUDITOR OF PUBLIC ACCOUNTS

Mike Foley REPUBLICAN
Kate Witek DEMOCRAT By most accounts (aside from Heinemen’s) Witek’s been a good auditor. I like that she’s been pushing for comprehensive performance audits. Heinemen threw a chair in her office once. The fact that she’s really quite conservative doesn’t actually bother me. Unless she becomes governor in 4 or 8 years. And never, in a million year’s would I have expected this.
Kelly Renee Rosberg NEBRASKA
Steve Larrick GREEN I like voting for Greens, but not this time.

FOR PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSIONER
DISTRICT ONE
Vote for ONE
Frank Landis REPUBLICAN I like Frank. I’ve had drinks with him and he’s Dave’s brother. I suspect that he doesn’t want to regulate cell phones much
Charlie Matulka DEMOCRAT I really like Charlie. He’s a decent guy who is way smarter than he let’s on. Charlie, I suspect would regulate cell phones more and lobby for lighting up LES’s dark fiber (he would have some say in this.
Frank will likely win this pretty big.

FOR COUNTY CLERK
Vote for ONE

Patricia A. Owen REPUBLICAN
Dan Nolte DEMOCRAT X marks the spot.

FOR COUNTY ASSESSOR -REGISTER OF DEEDS
Vote for ONE

Norman H. Agena REPUBLICAN I don’t own a house, but I’m not convinced that this office has been run too well. I don’t like the formula used. it’s a tough call.
Patrick Faden BY PETITION I don’t know this guy.
They’re both Republicans and really, it won’t likely matter. Agena will win.

FOR PUBLIC DEFENDER
Vote for ONE
Dennis R. Keefe DEMOCRAT X marks the spot.

County Commisioner

I can’t vote for any of them. There are no Democrats running and the Republicans running are all awful. I was going to say “especially Workman” but Deb Shorr is pretty bad, too. They’re all pretty bad in some manner.

FOR MEMBER OF THE LEGISLATURE
DISTRICT TWENTY-SIX

I can’t say anything about legislative races, as both my jobs make anything I say publically problematic. If any of you have any questions I can explain in private. PM me.

FOR MEMBER OF THE STATE BOARD
OF EDUCATION
DISTRICT FIVE
Vote for ONE

Patricia H. Timm
Alan Jacobsen X marks the spot. He’s a Democrat.

FOR DIRECTOR
LOWER PLATTE SOUTH
NATURAL RESOURCES DISTRICT
Subdistrict Five
Vote for ONE
Steve Larrick If he had an opponent (D or R), I’d still for for Steve. He’s a green.

FOR DIRECTOR
LOWER PLATTE SOUTH
NATURAL RESOURCES DISTRICT
Subdistrict Nine
Vote for ONE
Robert C. Andersen
Micah R. Kohles X Marks the spot.

FOR DIRECTOR
LOWER PLATTE SOUTH
NATURAL RESOURCES DISTRICT
Subdistrict Ten
Vote for ONE
Brennen Miller X marks the spot.
Jason Hayes

FOR DIRECTOR
LOWER PLATTE SOUTH
NATURAL RESOURCES DISTRICT
At Large
Vote for ONE
Terry Kubicek
David M. Landis X marks the spot (Duh!).

Amendment 1: Help for nonprofit groups

The amendment would allow local government to use tax-exempt bonds to finance buildings that would then be leased or purchased by a nonprofit organization. This would allow local nonprofit agencies to take advantage of the lower interest rate of government tax-exempt bonds.

Proposed by Dave Landis. That’s all the endorsement I need.

Amendment 2: Help for Lincoln’s Community Health Endowment Fund

This amendment would allow greater diversity in investing city public endowment funds and is intended to help Lincoln’s Community Health Endowment Fund.
Proposed by Chris Beutler. That’s all the endorsement I need.

Amendment 3: Compulsive gambling programs

This amendment would increase lottery funding to the Compulsive Gambler’s Assistance Fund from $500,000 to $1 million.

Sure.

Amendment 4: Probation and Parole

The amendment would make it easier for two agencies to work together. Now, probation employees, who work with people sentenced to specific probation requirements rather than being sent to prison or jail fall under the state court system and the judicial branch of government.

This was proposed by Kermit Brashear. I haven’t agreed with Brashear much. I think, though, this looks like a good idea. And when it comes to nuts and bolts governmental procedures, Brashear is no slouch.

Amendment 5: Early childhood education

This amendment would allow the state to use the interest from $40 million in state funds for grants to early childhood education programs. The state money would be combined with at least $20 million in private donations to create an early childhood education endowment fund.

The $40 million in state money is part of the perpetual fund for schools and the interest is divided among all public schools, based on student population.

Susan and Peter Buffett will provide at least $5 million to jumpstart the private donations for this public-private partnership.

This just seems like a great idea pretty much automatically. The fact The Western Nebraska Taxpayers Association opposes this amendment, pretty much seals the deal. Those people are nuts.

Amendment 6: Changing TIF requirements

This amendment would remove the requirement that property be substandard and blighted to qualify for special property tax financing. It would also expand the definition of what would qualify for TIF to include development, in addition to rehabilitating and redeveloping.

Again, this just makes sense on its face. Matt Connealy supports it, too. I’ve had issues with him. But when it comes to rural redevelopment in Nebraska, there are few people I trust more.

This link explains this Amendments well.

Initiative Measure 421
A vote “FOR” will amend the Nebraska
County and City Lottery Act to authorize
the use of video keno gaming devices.

If you like the idea of machines like those stupid video games on bars showing up more and then mix that with pickle cards, in more bars…

I hate those stupid video games on bars. My libertarian side says yes. My aesthete side says no.

Referendum ordered by Petition of the
People
Referendum Measure 422
A vote to “Retain” will retain Legislative
Bill 126 enacted in 2005 by the First
Session of the Ninety-Ninth Nebraska
Legislature, and that bill will (1) dissolve all
Class I school districts and repeal the
statutes dealing with their formation; (2)
attach Class I school districts to Class
II,III, IV and VI school districts; (3)
distribute Class I territory, assets and
liabilities (except for bonded
indebtedness); (4) prevent elementary
attendance centers for all school districts
including former Class I districts from
being closed under certain circumstances;
(5) provide for certain student
transportation requirements; and (6)
provide for aid to schools for transition
and elementary improvement.

Pretty complicated looking huh? Well, it is pretty complicated. Class 1 schools and their elimination causes a lot of people to get very upset. I don’t quite understand all of this. But if Ron Raikes and Kate Witek are on the same page of this, well… Really, it comes down to money. consolidating Class 1 school districts into larger districts will likely save a lot of money that the state spends on education. The one room schoolhouse seems nice, but it’s 2006. Vote to retain.

Proposed by Initiative Petition
Initiative Measure 423
A vote “FOR” will amend the Nebraska
Constitution to impose a state spending
limit based upon a calculation involving
previous appropriations, the inflation rate
and population change in Nebraska.
A vote “AGAINST” will not amend the
Nebraska Constitution to impose such a
state spending limit.

This is easily one of the worst pieces of legislation ever proposed in Nebraska history. I tried to post a long description as to why I think this and something ate it. Suffice to say, if you want publically funded school programs you should vote against this. This could really mess up the states budget. It’s awful and is not even inspired by a popular Nebraskan movement. It’s inspired by a guy who doesn’t live in Nebraska and could spend money to hire people to get signatures. It’s truly awful.

Reading this in three sittings because the day was fragmented, and the piece survived the fragmentation, and a stop at pantryparlor held up under similar reading conditions, content engineered for continuous attention is fragile in modern conditions and this site reads as durable across the realistic ways people consume content today.

  • GlennVew · 08/22/2026 at 11:26 PM

Coming back tomorrow when I can give this a proper read, the post deserves better attention than I can give right now, and a look at casacable suggests there is plenty more here that deserves the same treatment, definitely a site I will be exploring properly over the next few days when I can.

Recommend this to anyone who values clear thinking over flashy presentation, and a stop at serverstash continued in the same understated way, this site has its priorities in the right place which makes it worth supporting through repeat visits and recommendations rather than just one passing read today before moving on quickly elsewhere.

Now noticing how rare it is to find a site that does not feel rushed, and a look at softcanyon extended that calm pace, content produced without time pressure has a different quality than content shipped to meet a deadline and this site reads as written without urgency which produces a different and better experience for readers.

  • ZionEnula · 08/22/2026 at 11:32 PM

Generally I do not leave comments but this post merits a small note, and a stop at kovalyn extended that comment worthy quality, the urge to actively contribute to a sites community rather than passively consume from it is something specific content provokes and this site has provoked that engagement urge from me today.

  • Cecilruche · 08/22/2026 at 11:33 PM

Came in confused about the topic and left with a much firmer grasp on it, and after serverstash I felt I could explain this to someone else without hesitation, that is the gold standard for any educational content and most sites simply fail to reach it ever which is unfortunate but true.

  • Carmeloamife · 08/22/2026 at 11:33 PM

Ended up here on a wandering afternoon and was glad I stayed for the read, and a stop at vantavalley extended the wandering into a proper exploration of the site, the kind of place that rewards aimless clicking with something genuinely interesting rather than the shallow content that mostly populates the modern open web.

Thanks a lot, I appreciate it!

  • KrisWhast · 08/22/2026 at 11:35 PM

If I had to defend the time I spend reading independent blogs this site would feature in the defence, and a look at urbannet reinforced that defensive utility, the ongoing case for non algorithmic reading is one I make to myself periodically and sites like this one provide the actual evidence that supports the case clearly.

  • DustinVum · 08/22/2026 at 11:37 PM

Did not expect much when I clicked through but ended up reading the whole thing carefully, and a stop at prismporter kept that engagement going, sometimes the unassuming sites turn out to deliver more than the flashy ones which is something I have learned to look out for over time online lately and across topics.

  • ClarkRah · 08/22/2026 at 11:37 PM

Thank you for not assuming the reader already knows everything, the explanations meet me where I am, and a look at gymgearshop did the same, that consideration is what makes a site feel welcoming rather than gatekeepy which is sadly the default mood across the modern web today for most subjects covered.

During my morning reading slot this fit perfectly into the routine, and a look at pantryparlor extended that perfect fit into the rest of the routine, content that matches the rhythm of how I actually read rather than demanding accommodation from my schedule is content well calibrated to its likely audience and this site has it.

Beyond the immediate post itself the editorial sensibility behind the site is what struck me, and a stop at serverstash continued displaying that sensibility, content that reveals editorial choices through accumulated reading is content with structural quality and this site has clearly developed an underlying approach worth identifying through multiple sessions of reading.

  • Westonhar · 08/22/2026 at 11:39 PM

Reading this confirmed that my time researching the topic in other places had not been wasted, and a stop at tooltower extended the confirmation, when independent sources agree that is a useful signal and this site is one of the more reliable sources I have found for cross checking what I read elsewhere on similar subjects.

  • Eliasnew · 08/22/2026 at 11:40 PM

Glad to have another reliable bookmark for this topic, and a look at bowlboutique suggested several more pages I will be marking too, building a personal library of trustworthy resources is one of the actual rewards of careful browsing and this site is earning a place on my permanent shortlist for the topic.

Appreciated that the writer trusted the reader to follow along without constant restating of earlier points, and a look at pantryparlor continued that respect for the reader, treating an audience as capable adults rather than as people to be hand held through every paragraph is something I notice and value highly across the open internet today.

  • ChrisDiazy · 08/22/2026 at 11:47 PM

Found a couple of useful angles in here I had not considered before reading carefully, and a quick stop at vpsvillage added more, this is one of those sites where the value compounds the more you read rather than peaking at one viral post and then offering nothing else of substance afterwards which is common.

  • CalvinPEK · 08/22/2026 at 11:48 PM

Reading this prompted me to send the link to two different people for two different reasons, and a stop at blog44hospital provided ammunition for a third share, content that suits multiple audiences without being generic enough to be useless to any of them is genuinely valuable and this site has that multi audience quality clearly.

  • ClarkRah · 08/22/2026 at 11:48 PM

Thank you for not assuming the reader already knows everything, the explanations meet me where I am, and a look at gymgearshop did the same, that consideration is what makes a site feel welcoming rather than gatekeepy which is sadly the default mood across the modern web today for most subjects covered.

  • Wilfredwek · 08/22/2026 at 11:49 PM

Took my time with this rather than rushing because the writing rewards attention, and after softforest I had even more to absorb, the kind of content that pays back the patient reader rather than punishing them with empty filler is something I look for and rarely find in regular searches lately.

Reading this prompted me to subscribe to my first newsletter in months, and a stop at softcanyon confirmed the subscribe was the right call, content that earns a newsletter signup is content that has cleared a higher trust bar than a casual visit and this site has clearly earned that level of commitment from me.

Will share this on a forum I am part of where it will be appreciated by others working in the same area, and a look at pantryparlor suggests there is more here worth passing along too, definitely a generous resource that deserves a wider audience than it probably has today across the open internet.

  • TroyDix · 08/22/2026 at 11:55 PM

Solid endorsement from me, the writing earns it, and a look at pivoria continues to earn it across the broader site too, the kind of operation that maintains quality across many pages rather than just one viral post is a sign of serious commitment and that is what I see here clearly across what I read.

  • OctavioFup · 08/22/2026 at 11:56 PM

After reading several posts back to back the consistent voice across them is impressive, and a stop at laptoplifeline continued that voice consistency, sites that maintain a single coherent voice across many pieces by potentially many writers represent serious editorial discipline and this one has clearly developed the institutional consistency needed for that.

Useful information presented in a way that does not feel like a sales pitch, that is what I appreciated most, and a stop at blog44debate was the same, no upsell and no fake urgency just steady content laid out properly for someone trying to actually learn from it rather than just be sold to.

Just want to record that this site is entering my regular reading list, and a look at urbannet confirmed it deserves the spot, my regular reading list is short and well curated and adding to it requires meeting a fairly high quality bar that this site has clearly cleared without much effort apparently.

A piece that did not lean on the writer credentials or institutional backing, and a look at willowwharf maintained the same focus on substance, content that earns trust through quality rather than through name dropping is the kind I find most persuasive and this site is clearly playing on the substance side of that distinction.
