It took us some experimenting, but the buttery crouton in a skillet on low tossed like some skillet taters produced the best results. Toasting multiple times in a toaster oven with flips made a much drier crouton if that is what you are looking for. It makes them taste like cookies either way. Just imagine a drizzle on these and put into a bowl. Great finger food.
