CHDK is awesome. Get more out of your Canon digicam

I saw this link a few weeks ago and got all giddy. I found a forum post about the progress for my canon camera and followed along. It is almost there now. It was not working last week. But now it is working alright for me.

What is CHDK?

CHDK is a firmware enhancement that operates on a number of Canon Cameras. CHDK gets loaded into your camera’s memory upon bootup (either manually or automatically). It provides additional functionality beyond that currently provided by the native camera firmware.

CHDK is not a permanent firmware upgrade: you decide how it is loaded (manually or automatically) and you can always easily remove it.

It does not change the camera software, just puts a software in front of it, enhancing the options. Like a live CD that gives your cameras hardware the software to do what the expensive point and shoots software allows. I get the features of a $300 + camera with the same hardware for the lower cost model.

My camera is a SD750 and it is not totally cracked yet, but once it is completely cracked it will be really cool.
Currently it shows an accurate battery level with a percentage. (The orig only told me when it was a minute away from dying)
It shows how much space is left on the memory card. (only available if you wanted to format the card)
And I am not going to go into the enhancement menu cuz it is huge. It is amazing.
