My friend had a bum MS OS and needed some help. I threw in a knoppix CD and used scp to copy off all of his data on to my NAS. Reinstalled XP and while updating I figure I will upgrade to IE 7, gonna make firefox the default though. After 83 updates, which is not all that bad, I reboot and check for more updates. Some security fixes for IE7 and it makes me reboot again.
Just to make this as absolutely clear as possible. The web browser update made me reboot. WOW
Good news is that he now has a working PC with all his stuff salvaged in under 3 hours.
