one more card down and gonna beef up my main puter

We are on a roll. After vacation we have put in a new garage door opener, put a new muffler on the car, and are tackling our debt like a rabid unicorn on a Ugandan tree slug with a broken shell. I saved up some pennies over the last month and am gonna make a huge jump with a new processor for my main rig. Fastest chip they make for my retired 939 socket. Dual core 2.6 AMD Opteron 185, server class baby. Will be a huge jump from my single core 1.9 AMD 3500+ I have currently. Stayed up late last night for my direct deposit to register and ordered it next day. Why don’t they offer same day?

Then paid off the Best Buy card completely. We killed the Circuit City card a while back, now target, amazon, and a loan I took out on my life insurance for my clunker truck. We are getting closer and closer to being debt free paycheck by paycheck. We hardly eat out anymore, I rarely hit bars, I have my dream bike, and a new wii game to keep me occupied for a while. Still a bit in debt, but it feels really good to cross one more card off the list.

gee why does my computer seem to suck in HL2?

What a weekend. Just to let anyone who actually cares know. I am so close to being done with the 300 pound Gorilla at work. We worked till 1 AM friday and a couple hours sat, and I will do some stuff today, but it is about 95% done and life is gonna be so much better work wise after this friday.

So I am playing HL2 Episode 2 and well being a newer game the graphics are intense. I had set every setting to the lowest setting and still had severe glitches where the game froze up and I had to wait a few seconds for it to come back. I am ordering a new processor wed, but it seemed to be getting worse. My graphics card is decent, but a bit old.

Well Sat it just got horrible. And in linux when I was making a DVD backup I was having the glitches as well. It had been a while since I had blown out the dust and figured it might be time. My CPU heatsink was a dust ball. Blew the whole thing out and well now I can go to medium settings in HL2 E2 and it rocks. Silly me.

Sure you have to wear the red / blue glasses, but this seems pretty cool.
Anyone know where I can get me a pair of those glasses? A fosters home for imaginary friends was done in 3D and I bet it would of been cool.

Astrophysicist Replaces Supercomputer with Eight PlayStation 3s

Pretty cool

“The interest in the PS3 really was for two main reasons,” explains Khanna, an assistant professor at the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth who specializes in computational astrophysics. “One of those is that Sony did this remarkable thing of making the PS3 an open platform, so you can in fact run Linux on it and it doesn’t control what you do.”

He also says that the console’s Cell processor, co-developed by Sony, IBM and Toshiba, can deliver massive amounts of power, comparable even to that of a supercomputer — if you know how to optimize code and have a few extra consoles lying around that you can string together.

“The PS3/Linux combination offers a very attractive cost-performance solution whether the PS3s are distributed (like Sony and Stanford’s Folding@home initiative) or clustered together (like Khanna’s), says Sony’s senior development manager of research and development, Noam Rimon.

According to Rimon, the Cell processor was designed as a parallel processing device, so he’s not all that surprised the research community has embraced it. “It has a general purpose processor, as well as eight additional processing cores, each of which has two processing pipelines and can process multiple numbers, all at the same time,” Rimon says.

A person with ubuntu is open and available to others, affirming of others, does not feel threatened that others are able and good, for he or she has a proper self-assurance that comes from knowing that he or she belongs in a greater whole and is diminished when others are humiliated or diminished, when others are tortured or oppressed.
