This is so fricking lame on so many levels. I was in wilderness during that time. Think I am gonna have to wear a flak jacket out there. That is two shootings out there in less than a year.

Lancaster County Sheriff’s deputies took a report of a deer being shot from the road Sunday afternoon at Wilderness Park.

Two witnesses saw it happen shortly before 4:30 p.m. near First and Calvert streets. When deputies arrived, they saw a white-tailed deer, southeast of the intersection, trying to crawl away.

One of the deputies shot the deer.

Witnesses said they saw two men wearing orange hunting jackets in a green ’90s model, short-box Chevrolet truck at the intersection. The driver leaned out of the pickup window and shot the deer with a long rifle, according to an incident report.

Then the truck sped away.

The sheriff’s office has no suspects.

hat tip to Lincolnite since the LJS does not have the article on its website. Seems like a conspiracy to me.

might you help me decide what to give out for hween?

Filed under: Lincoln News, food, random crap — beerorkid @ Oct 24th, 2007

Not only do I want to grow old and scare the neighborhood children, but we would also like to be the cool house on the block that gives out the good stuff. About 3 years ago no spawn would visit our neighborhood. We had to eat all the candy ourselves. Well the last two years have been pretty good and we have been giving out full size bars. I even handed out glow stix last year to the little ones.

Well we are gonna do it again this year and want to make sure we have the good stuff. Sure we will prob get multiple kinds, but if you could help us pick which one to get the most of it would be appreciated.

And in other dumb ass candy news:

Man accused of felony for stealing candy bar

A 47-year-old transient has been charged with felony shoplifting for allegedly stealing a Reese’s Crispy Crunchy bar from a Lincoln convenience store.

Police ticketed Carl Leapley on suspicion of taking the candy bar from U-Stop, 610 S. 10th St., on Sept. 19.

Because Leapley has two prior theft convictions, in 2004 and 2005, Deputy Lancaster County Attorney Rodney Reuter filed the case as a felony.

Leapley was set for court Oct. 18, but failed to appear, according to court records.

 crappy news day?

Filed under: Lincoln News — beerorkid @ Oct 23rd, 2007

So apparently the LJS would like to know your favorite plop plop machine outside of your home.

You can tell a lot about a place by its bathrooms. We’re looking for your recommendations on Lincoln’s most noteworthy public restrooms. Tell us about the best, the worst, the cleanest, the nastiest, the most improved, the hardest to find, ones with interesting features … and any others that stand out for one reason or another.

Cindy Lange-Kubick: Helping one man get his lawn back

I feel for the guy. He is living my dream. To be a crotchety old guy that all the neighborhood kids fear maintaining my immaculate lawn, writing letters to the paper, and calling the local weather station to tell them what my rain gauge and thermometer says.

Kid 1: “Billy I dare you to cut the corner of crazy old man Ramos’s lawn on your bike”

Kid 2: “no way Enrique, I hear he puts thorns in that part of his lawn so your tires go flat so he can catch you and tell you stories about the times before laser TV’s.”

Yes I cannot wait to become that guy.

 house almost go boom

Filed under: Lincoln News — beerorkid @ Sep 27th, 2007

A gas line was cut just a block from my house. We headed out shopping and could smell it big time. T said “that is something more than a propane tank.” The article says they evacuated, but we were not home so not sure if they got to our street.

Nebraska State Capitol
I know of some Department of Road employees who got jack squat for a raise - 0 percent - and now they get this good news:

State employees will pay almost $50 a month more for family coverage, and about $14 a month more for single coverage, under the state’s most expensive plan. About 13,500 workers use the state’s health insurance.

Police arrest 10 in sex sting at Wilderness Park

LJS article

Hmmmm….. My happy place is wilderness park. I spend lots of time in there. I call it my church, which is kind of ironic given the above story.

Thing is I am riding my bike in there. I wanna hook up in the tight corners (my tires), I hope to grab (the dirt) some tight single track, I don’t wanna go down, but sometimes it happens. My goal is to have my behind wore out when I leave.

Thing is I have not once come upon any guys there doing inappropriate acts. Butt (he he), I see them in the parking lot all the time. Specially by the fitness loop and north hiking trail parking lots. Backing your vehicle into the parking spot is the “foot tap” signal.

Only time I have noticed anything strange going on was 12 years or so ago I came upon a guy in his tighty whities on a very narrow bridge. I had to get off and reach around him just to get by (seriously these puns are horrible I know). he wanted to talk to me and I just wanted to get away from him.

Thing is wilderness is filled with plants you do not want to get near. I am almost immune to nettles on my legs cuz they get it so bad when the trail is overgrown. Also the woodland creatures, ticks, and misquotes are horrible during times of the year. I could not imagine wanting to actually “perform” out there.

Last year I got pert near 2,000 miles out there in 20 mile increments, this year about 500 so far. And mostly I am deep in the park and only see other bikers on the bike side. You see the backed in vehicles on the way in, yet I never see questionable folks on the trails.

Still it is a bummer that it is happening out there. Bike officer Martai rides out there a bunch. I have chatted with him a few times.

sure am gonna miss not noticing them train horns

Filed under: Lincoln News — beerorkid @ Sep 12th, 2007

LJS article

So us south bottoms folk will loose some crossings, but the horns will stop blaring. I would rather have the crossings actually, but my property value would prob enjoy the quietness. I live a block away from the main 3 tracks that get used a bunch, and the track on my block is used to move cars around.

I love when they are moving the cars around. A deep boom followed by the whole house rumbling is pretty cool. The horns do not bother me much. I really only notice them when my window is open and I am bedding down. They are really loud though, like really loud. I doubt it messes with my sleep that much and the track noise zonks me out really good.

They reccomend that the D and J street crossings be closed. That should keep the traffic down pretty good. Will make the Jamaica trail a little safer as well. They are gonna wait till the Harris overpass is done before working on the quiet zone north of A street, so I will have to wait for a while.

 Neato Neighborhood with strange buildings

Filed under: Lincoln News, lincoln — beerorkid @ Aug 31st, 2007

I call it the hispanic flats, but most would know the neighborhood as the south bottoms. I live a street away from the area that the planning commission unanimously voted to call blighted

Come sip a brew with me and look over the vast acres of blight iffin you want.
hat tip to Mr. Wilson

I used to be afraid to deliver pizza’s here, but after 8 years I have grown to love it. Cooper park, the salt levee trail, salt creek, Germans from Russia museum, and soon the Jamaica North trail. I am 1 block away from the industrial area, under Capitol Parkway and between two railroad tracks. But the neighborhood is filled with cool places.

Oh man I sooooo wanna see the rest of the crap in this post… »
