tostabags solve a mans biggest dilema

How can I make grilled cheese in my toaster? This question has plagued so many of us for decades now. Never fear tostabags are here.

Toastabags have many advantages: 1. Healthy eating, no added fats required2. Tough enough to be used over and over again3. Just wipe clean ready for next time4. Cook meals in a tiny, low-budget space Toastabag - it turns your toaster into a sandwich maker.

Almost $20 for two crappy bags that has to be a huge pain to clean and prob do not allow good toasting. Seems kinda silly. Also I triple decker my cheezy sammiches and no tostabag could possibly contain one of mine.

 GPS tracker / instamapper

Filed under: Gadgets, iphone — beerorkid @ Aug 12th, 2008

So before i got the iphone I was all like “wowz I will be able to track my rides on my iphone”, but then I got it and found out that by default it does not work like that. Lucky for me instamapper came out with an app and using their wesite it will follow me around. Sure it eats up the battery like crazy, but is really cool.

map below will change as I use it.
Gonna get a good map of my bike ride tonight.

GPS tracking powered by InstaMapper.com

UPDATE: Although this is a really cool app, the iphone turns off GPS when you lock it. So no turning it on and throwing it in your pocket and getting a tracking. You gotta keep the phone on and have that app open. :(

updating the iphone firmware was fun, NOT!

Filed under: Gadgets, iphone — beerorkid @ Aug 6th, 2008

cheesus

Two agonizing hours of phone no worky and trying to troubleshoot the problem. The 2.0.1 update was huge and I decided to try it out. Backing the iphone up takes forever in the 2.0.0 version so I let it do that while I made dinner. Ran the update which gives you little info and took a long time. Then went to restore and it failed, and failed, and failed. Looked around and found some stuff. Ended up just needing to “reboot” the phone and restore to a point way back in time. Had to resync all my music and apps. Lost all my data too, like passwords on websites, contact information, location data on apps. Pretty much had to start all over again. Pretty big bummer actually.

I had an app called box office installed and apple has pulled the app from its store for some reason. Nobody really knows why though. Having that on there might of been what hosed me cuz it was having all sorts of errors about that app being on there.

But the update seems to have improved a few things. Contacts is faster, and the home screens flick better, but the best is the keyboard seems faster. So I guess it was worth it. Theresa’s is next.

 We invisible shielded our iphones

My razr had scratches on the glass and I do not want the same fate to happen to my phone. Theresa picked up an invisible shield last night and I got one today. A worthy investment as far as we know. It changes the feel a bit, bit is worth it.

Sheet is crazy protective and really adds no bulk or decreased sensitivity to our iphones. It actually makes your fingers slide along it better.

 fricking love the iphone

Scuse me while I geek out for a bit. I wanted an old iphone back when it came out, but waited. My 1st gen razr was pretty lame. Really wanted a good web browser phone. I researched the iphone and it seemed cool. Even while waiting for it to show up I learned all I could about it. But I did not realize just how cool it really was. The phone part is just a feature actually. It really is a mini computer that does more than my regular computers in ways.

The GPS mapping is really cool. I wish it could track where you have been so you can upload it to the web or a PC, but apps are in the works for that functionality so I just need to be patient. I was surprised by how many programs use your location though. Weather, the camera, the yellow page app, movie checking apps, and even a really cool grocery shopping list program I found. The GPS is smart enough to know which part of my house I am in or what lane of the street. The directions in maps is plenty for a turn by turn on a phone.

Oh man I sooooo wanna see the rest of the crap in this post… »

A birdy told me 3G will be here in Lincoln in about a fortnight and Omaha later. The wifi is still the best way to go though. And it is smart in how it is used. If a password is needed for the connection you enter it and it remembers. Then go from one wifi spot you have joined to the next without having to do anything. Even if it drops you still have the edge network so you are always connected.

The browser is awesome. I keep finding little tricks that shock me. On wifi it is darn fast. Zooming and navigating gets easier. Typing on the tiny keyboard was a pain at firts, but I am getting really good at it now and it is learning my style. It put beerorkid in the dictionary automatically which was nice. Email is awesome. I actually use the gmail site over the built in mail app since it is very amazingly optimized for mobile browsing. I love getting a little buzz and knowing I just got an email.

The games are awesome. Theresa is completely hooked on Trism, and it a great time waster. The race games are fun too. Apps I love are a wordpress one that lets me post to my blogs. A flickr one lets me upload and download pics. It is a ipod as well and I completely reloaded my entire library and am having lots of fun listening to stuff I have not listened to for years.

The coolest app so far is called ineedstuff. It is a grocery shopping app that is really well made. It seems so simple when you use it, but there is a bunch of really cool stuff going on in the background. We wanted an app that would allow us to make lists that we could edit with ease while shopping. We had been using google docs to share our lists which we printed off and went to the store with. I looked around and found ineedstuff and purchased it. A bit pricey at $10 for such a simple app, but it works really good.

Ineedstuff has a simple list of groceries that is very well made to customize with ease. you add items to your list and head to the store. Once in the store you click off stuff as you go. The first item at a new store will ask you what the stores name is. It does it via the GPS. When you tap an item on the list it drops down to a section below called purchased. The next time you come back to the store it will know where you are and will organize your list by your path through the store (how fricking cool is that?). Every time you use it it gets smarter too. A future release around september when apple hopes to allow apps to push info to the phone is going to include syncing between multiple iphones, so Theresa and I can share the lists we create.

Only been two days with my own iphone and I am in love. I get bummed when I am not in a hotspot, but 3G is just around the corner so I will live. Apps keep coming out every day to add more functionality. I keep finding new little tricks and have to run and show Theresa. Severely impressed and very happy. Completely worth it.

« Enough crap for me, close it up please

the iwait is driving me insaner :( UPDATED :)

Theresa got her iphone friday, my account got charged Friday, I was first in the queue friday, but I still wait for a “it has been shipped” tracking #.

We have put the hurt on Theresa’s iphone though. Battery power is not what you would expect. We were draining it quick over the weekend. Lots of fun apps out there. Trisim is horribly addicting. The maps with GPS is really fun to play with. It can tell if I am in the living room or near the back door. On our way to dinner last night it tracked pretty good. Said Theresa was in the opposing lane a few times and we apologize for all the houses we went through around 9th and D street. Got browsing down good, and it only crashed about 4 times on me. Ripped some movies and played bits of one on it. Was fun.

There are a bunch of applications that require you to register with their service. I did not do that on her phone. So there are many apps I want to try out that I will have to wait for. Found a good app for hooking into flickr and it allows you to download pics from it. That is really nice. The wordpress app works pretty good too. Since you cannot copy and paste, nor use a WYSIWYG to post, links will not show up very often if I post from the phone. Oh and if you want a pic in the post you have to upload it from the phone. I heard some groans about the camera, and I have to say it is better than I thought it would be.

I better have that darn thing by tomorrow.

UPDATE: finally got a tracking number during a marathon refresh session. About 30 clicks and 2 minutes in it appeared. eeeee

A person with ubuntu is open and available to others, affirming of others, does not feel threatened that others are able and good, for he or she has a proper self-assurance that comes from knowing that he or she belongs in a greater whole and is diminished when others are humiliated or diminished, when others are tortured or oppressed.
