AT&T rolled out 3G in Lincoln and Omaha
Attention iPhone users — AT&T’s 3G network is now available in Lincoln and Omaha.
The data transmission network was switched on at midnight Tuesday in the two cities and is fully operational.
3G will allow iPhone users and AT&T subscribers with other phones that have browsers to connect to the Internet at DSL speeds, a much faster connection than the “Edge” data transmission system previously in place, said Ben Nguyen of AT&T SouthPointe.
3G also penetrates buildings far better than the previous connection, he said.
The 3G network in eastern Nebraska only covers the major cities, Nguyen said.
“It’s just going to be Lincoln and Omaha,” he said. “When you get out into the smaller places, it’s not going to be there. But it’s going strong in Lincoln.”
it averages 6 X faster than the edge network here at work. Faster than the wireless
nice little testing website http://www.testmyiphone.com/

Have you used it yet BorK? I’m still sticking with my first gen iPhone ’til it dies. I’m okay with EDGE for now.

I have been checking multiple times a week and jumped right on it once I saw the article. It averages just under 1 mb on many of the speed tests I have tried. Faster than the wireless at work.
I have been asking for wifi in the 2nd floor baffroom for a while now and now I do not need it. lolcats loading really fascht.

OK - I just called the local AT&T store off 72nd and 370 (Shadow Lake). The representative there said that they launched 3G in Lincoln first to “work out any bugs” because it was a smaller market. He said they’ve had great success with it and will switch our 3G towers on in December, although he didn’t have the exact date.
Just thought I’d update everyone. Happy holidays.

The 3G switch has been flipped here in Omaha! Woke up and saw the lovely little 3G symbol in the upper left of my phone this morning. Plus, where I work, I usually only had 2-3 bars but now it is a full five bars! Christmas just got a little merrier.
Happy Holidays everyone!

[...] tip to Bryan who said his 3G icon was on this morning. The original press release said Omaha and Lincoln were live, but it turned out to be only Lincoln. I hope your speeds are as [...]

Today (12/7) I am back to non-3g connection in Omaha. Has anyone else lost 3g in Omaha?
Comment by James — December 7, 2008 @ 3:01 pm
And now it’s back to 3g. Hmm. I wonder if it’s just me
The outage I experienced was when I was at shadow lake mall in papillion so maybe it’s a location thing
