small towns near Lincoln that are fun to hang around?

Theresa and I celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary on Friday (talk like a pirate day). We are gonna do something Saturday together and I was thinking a daytrip to a close town. You know walk around checking out stores and hit a greasy spoon of some sort. Good food and enough to see to keep us busy for a few hours is what we are looking for.
So any ideas? I was thinking Louisville or Beatrice, or something like that.

Go to the Black Crow in Beatrice. Not a greasy spoon by any means, but a nice restaurant.

First of all - Congrats on 5! You are a good man.
Secondly - I hear good things about Nebraska City. Also, there is a nice Bed and Breakfast up in Raymond not far from the winery up there, which might make for a nice and VERY close day trip.
Other than that, I would suggest “the Bridges of Madison County” (from the movie) but that is a 2.5/3 hour drive, about an hour west of Des Moines. Maybe too long for you depending on your schedule.
BTW was it you who hacked Palin’s account?

I second Nebraska City. Brownville is also good.
I’ve also been tempted to do a day trip to some of the Amish communities in Iowa.

I like Louisville and Brownville. Auburn is also an option.

I’ve got a keg of Woodchuck Amber Draft Cider on tap at work, at the moment. It’s very delicious, and has the best tap handle ever.

Greeley Nebraska (about 30 miles north of St. Paul) holds a half way to St. Patty’s day celebration. This will be their second year in holding it. It’s a lot of fun with good Irish bands, food and spirits. Just a suggestion for you and your readers.
