I originally bought an itouch 16g and it was really awesome. However after playing with some guys iPhone I had to upgrade to the 16g white. Yes the 2yr contract is a stick in the mud and the price of the plan but these things are freaken sweet. I typing this with mine right now. The 2.0 update adds the app store which contains applications ranging from games to the white pages. Best part is there are tons of free ones. I find it handy when running to have access to a phone and iPod. The cover flow feature Is a dream to use. Built speakers allow you to share funny videos with friends as well. Typing using the virtual key pad is easy and this is a guy who hates to text. It is a phone, iPod, pager, email account, clock, wiu, tv, and inter st rolled into one. If you have on is suggest you check m.vtap.com because it takes all major videos online and allows them to be played on the iPhone since they have yet to install flash on them.

Thanks for the feedback. For me, its the mandatory data plan that is the stickler. Is the iPhone interface nice enough to allow one to be truly interactive while out of the office/home? I would like the ability to not only read blog posts or email, but to post responses or write emails. I know you can do it, but its not as efficient for me as having a laptop and using free wifi somewhere or even using an air card.

The other thing that bothers me about getting an iPhone is that I already have an iPod nano which I usually religiously, especially for running. I don't want to have to deal with having a heavy iPhone in my pocket when I run when I can have a much lighter device. Guess I'm just an iPhone hata.

my boss at work really wants one, but his monthly bill would pretty much double. He is thinking of just getting an ipod touch since he is normally near wi-fi and does not mind carrying two devices.

My pockets are sacred and filled enough already.

Oh and the iphone is fricking cool.

I was going to write up my response here, but it quickly turned into an essay. So I posted it up over at one of my many and varied blogs, here. Or in the pingback above there. But mostly here.

I am an internet whore. It is the first thing I want to check after being out for a while. I love all my email telling me when someone left a comment and of course work related stuff. Actually I just came back from a bike ride to find an email letting me know that a server I created today had a duplicate IP address hosing a bunch of people. They did not know I had done it, so no call, just a group wide email.

I finally got a cool phone 3 or so years ago that could take pictures and get on the internet. Except it only hits uscellular made sites and I cannot download the pictures off of my camera. I completely hosed myself on that. There are so many times I do not have my camera with me and would of loved to taken a picture. I do not even bother with my current phone.

I really do not use much minutes at all. I want a mini computer, camera, ipod, the internets, and yeah a phone with me as one gadget. The iphone does that.

3G is not here in Lincoln yet, but they say by the end of the year.

We are free of contracts now and my phone has been repaired twice and is pert near destroyed anyways. We studied all the plans and it will cost $35 more after all the crap per month. I am cutting back elsewhere.

When it comes to the browser, safari on the iphone has no comparison. None. That is the deal breaker for me.

Just out of curiosity, what was your thought process behind your decision to buy one? I am always interested in hearing about the rationale behind consumer choices for big investments, particularly things like iPhones which are expensive investments, albeit nice ones.

The reason I ask is that I am waffling between getting a new phone and contract myself, and have thought about the iPhone too. However, I just can't justify having a 3G phone with a mandatory data plan when I can't use the 3G in Lincoln and my use of the internet would be very limited as I rarely travel and have high speed internet at home and the office.

I don't have many issues with coverage at all. However, big warning: There is no 3G coverage in Nebraska. So if you buy one of the new iPhones, you'll be paying extra for a service that you simply won't be getting.
