bawk hardy heron is cool bawk
Downloaded ubuntu Hardy alpha 6 for the laptop. It is pretty darn cool from what I have seen. Got wireless, compiz, the new gnome, and firefox 3 on it. Had a bit of an issue with scim messing with my language, but got rid of that. Took me a bit to get the xorg working well since I did not notice there is a new way to do it graphically. The nvidia settings GUI got my resolution correct which is a first. No hacking necessary.
I picked up everything with ease. This will be the next LTS distro so they are making it pretty cool.
Gotta love an OS that puts out a new version every 6 months. I am not ready to switch at work yet since I doubt vmware server is ready for Hardy yet. Still for my home PC it works great.
Impressed I am.

Wish i could say the same here! in my windows land! went ahead and tried xp 64 bit pro. Man i can’t take it any more after a week! compared to 32 bit it blows! I guess for just BS its a little faster but video and games seems to have some trouble.
Could be a variable of things i guess but i’m blaming the 64 bit hehe
So i guess i go backwards cause ant going forward to vista LOL
Variables
Old-Dual 500gb 7200rpm sata2 HDD
New- Raptor 150gb 10,000rpm sata1 HDD
Old- 4gb ddr800
new- A extra 4 total = 8
And Of Course
Old - 32 bit xp pro
new - 64 bit xp pro
Scoring a 10500-11000 on 3dmark06
now only hiting 9700-10000(10g with OCing)
BS BS BS i tell ya

yeah 64 bit is only for enterprise applications right now. I bet it will be at least 5 years till it is the normal.
64 bit linux is moving along nicely, but for regular users there are issues like horrible flash and other things.
At least the 64 bit chips can handle a few extra things to boost performance, but actually using it for real is far out there.
I have a 74gb raptor for my OS’s drive. They rule. ONe fine machine you have there.

Not according to what I overhear the salesguys at Best Buy telling old ladies and poor people. According to them 64 bit procs are pretty much mandatory and if you’re going to buy a 32 bit computer “you may as well go dig one out of the trash you piece of donkey smegma with legs.”
I really need to bitch slap more people at Best Buy when I’m there. Except for that really big guy with the baby arm, he creeps me out, but I’m not sure if he still works there.
