new toy came preloaded with vista, wish I could play with it
Since the car did not need a new radiator we had enough left in savings to replace our broke laptop. Picked up an little HP. Not too fancy, but decent. Tried to show the size difference in the pic, but failed. Only 14 inches. Thing has Vista installed on it and I just wanted to burn off the recovery disks. Kinda bummed cuz 2 hours after getting home with it I am still on the first step.
Vista is a turd, pre installed custom operating systems suck. It took at least 20 minutes to get into vista. First the normal setup with username, pass, time zone, etc…. Goes through its thing while showing advertisements. Finaly looks like it is going to boot into windows and “installing HP software”. I wait, wait, peel the 10 stickers off the dam thing. Looked like it was sponsored by nascar. Then the register with us, oh would you like this special offer, how about …… Got in about 20 minutes after powering it on.
Anyway vista sux, go straight to disk burning program, gonna take about an hour is says. That was just to build the disks which eventually fill 10gb of the 12gb partition, now I have to burn 3 DVD’s or 17 CD’s. I figure 3 hours in I will get to install a better OS. Gonna install a fresh non HP tainted mini partition of vista since I have access to it and a key on this, then ubuntu.

It makes sense that people will read this series close. It’s interesting, even exotic in a way. There’s undeniably something romantic to the idea that Lincoln’s big enough to have its very own “ghetto.” The place where you don’t go after dark for fear of being robbed or shot. The place where everything is so very different, there’s no way the “normal Lincolnites” can blend in or feel safe.
There’s only one problem: We don’t have that place here.

Yeah 8 hours of downtime sux, but they usually overstate it and they have to physically move the servers from one location to another. me i will be sleeping during that time.
Economy and Performance auto repair impresses me again
My first experience with them went well, the second time was even better. a month or so ago I took the car to get some new rubber on it at a tire store and they did a normal check of stuff and told me I needed a new radiator. I had many issues with the radiator in the past. I just took their word and figured I needed it replaced. I wanted to go to E&P again so we saved up some $ and needed a clutch master cylinder replaced as well.
So dropped off the car and waited for a call. He called and basically said “you do not need a new radiator”, saving me some serious money. I found that to be pretty cool. They could of easily replaced it since I was convinced it needed it, but they were honest about it. I know I can trust them from now on.

Deputy Uses Taser on Fleeing Bicyclist
A Glenn County sheriff’s deputy shot a man with a Taser gun for allegedly riding his bike at night without proper lighting.
According to a sheriff’s spokesman, the bicyclist ignored warnings from the deputy he would use the stun gun, then fled on foot.
One probe struck the bicyclist, Omar Herrada Rivera, 39, but he did not receive a shock.
After being checked out at a hospital, Rivera was held in the county jail on suspicion of resisting arrest, riding a bicycle without proper lighting, riding under the influence of alcohol and using false citizenship government documents.
The sheriff’s spokesman said the deputy’s decision to use the Taser was proper.
