any oriental dish ideas for a newb?

I tried a sesame chicken on her. Figured go with the simplest and safest first. Used this recipe and it was meh even to me. Lowered the sugar and vinegar but the vinegar was there and was too sweet. She put a little on her rice and ate the chicken plain. She is now frightened to try anything else.
She is not much of a vegetable eater. And strange sauces scare her a bit. She loves garlic, chicken, and rice.
Was thinking about trying an egg roll very heavy on the chicken, but she is a bit afraid of cabbage.
Do any of have any suggestions on something I could look into making that might be safe on her delicate palate?
I have heard some say leave oriental food to the people who make it for ya, but I wanna make it myself and expand our recipe stash.

Maybe T would like lettuce wraps like PF Chang’s? I’m not saying this to mock her tastes in any way, but lots of extremely white people love PF Chang’s. I use this recipe (I use less sugar in the special sauce and add some lemongrass to be fanchy):

Would she like orange chicken? It can be kinda sweet but is a decent dish also. Here is a good one:

the Golden Whatever on 27th Street up here by my apartment has GARLIC CHICKEN on their menu. it’s uber good. and you can get steamed rice.
and yes, i believe everything at PF Changs is awesome (except the asparagus… they don’t cut the woody ends off @ the omaha PF Changs, and your tongue will have slivers… not good!)

“extremely white people”? I LOL’ed on that one. Dude, throw me a papaya, garlic, brown sugar, chili peppers, fish sauce, and some peanuts, and I will make you guys a heavenly concoction.
I’m headed to the motherland in a few weeks and will have some pics and reports up on lincolnite.
