Jack’s Pumpkin Spice Ale

Filed under: Reviews, beer, random crap — jake rhymes with cake @ Oct 7th, 2007

Okay, I’m not a HUGE beer fan, and I’m typically not daring when it comes to new beers unless I hear a flavor description from a friend whom I trust. I was doing some grocery shopping tonight at the Evil-W and came across a display of “Fall” beers, including the dandy pictured above.

I read the label: Ale brewed with only the finest barley malt, the choicest hops, pumpkin and spices. PUMPKIN PIE BEER?! WHAT?!!

HELL YES!!!

I bought a 6-pack ($7) and prayed that it would taste as good as it sounds. When I got home I threw a bottle in the freezer, unpacked my groceries, and whipped up some guacamole. Once that was all finished, the bottle of ale has a nice frost going.

I cracked that sucker open and took a huge swig. “It tastes like beer” I thought. Another swig. “Still tastes like beer.” I’m saddened. A couple more gulps. “THERE IT IS!!!” DAMN, THAT’S GOOD SHIITE!!! It takes a couple hits for the flavors to develop on the pallet, but once it does, it’s very pleasant. And this is my favorite beer ever. Old Style has it’s place, but Jack’s Pumpkin Spice Ale has stolen my heart this Fall.

Anheuser-Busch did a great job on this ale. Most barley ales finish with the taste of raisins, but this Pumpkin Spice finishes with a nice hint of pumpkin pie. You can actually detect the cinnamon and nutmeg layering the pumpkin finish. It’s not overly sweet. I would go so far as to say it’s a savory ale. Don’t let the “pumpkin pie” imagery confuse you.

Buy a case and try it. If you don’t like it, give it to me… :D

  1. Sweet thanks for the review. I have been interested in trying that. I have had a few pumpkin beers before, most are pretty good.
