Local places I like
In case you missed it, downtown Lincoln has another sandwich shop. As underwhelming as that news sounds, I was surprised that the sandwich was actually pretty good at Erbert & Gerbert’s in the former Homer’s Record store by the Zoo Bar.
The sandwiches are HUGE. I had the Narmer, a turkey, avocado, provolone, lettuce, tomato (that was fresh!), sprouts and mayo (a little too heavy) on French bread. Half a sandwich would be plenty but I don’t think they offer that.
There was plenty of meat but I wouldn’t have minded seasoning the sandwich with some herbs or something.
They did a nice job of renovating the old Homer’s. A coffee bar on the main floor didn’t get much business over the lunch hour but it probably picks up the slack when the restaurant isn’t busy. Two lines and the coffee bar made for a fairly congested area inside the front doors.
I’d go back, especially since the restaurant seemed to attract more than its fair share of hotties over the lunch hour today. I think next time I’ll split a sandwich with a friend and try the soup.
I probably spent about $7.50 for the sandwich, chip, soda combo. Planet Sub, for instance, offers a better lunch deal if you order the daily special but E&G is pretty good too. Not sure how many sandwich shops we need downtown, but this was better than I expected it to be.

i ate at ROOST the other day and was not impressed w/ the under-seasoned “GREEK GEEK” sandwhich. it was very bland. zero flavor. the chips were better than the sandwhich, which was quite sad.
they had zero business that day (9/11/07). i was there 30 mins and i was the only one. from 2-230p.
ROOST is offering a new “buffalo wing” sandwhich called the #11. it’s suppose to taste like buffalo wings. i think that’s what i should have gotten instead of the “GREEK GEEK” — i was trying to eat healthy. lol

I heard that a sandwich shop was going to go in there months ago. from what i was told they have made there living following around jimmy johns and have done pretty well at it. where jimmy johns opens a store they open a store.

Forgot to mention that Ground Zero had a story on the Marz bar reopening under the ownership of Nader Sepahpur of Oso and Yia Yia’s fame.

Thanks for the review. My favorite downtown sandwich shop remains either Brown Baggers (tuna or chicken salad on croissant) or Danny’s (the Z Street), but I’ll have to check this one out as it sounds good.
