et venit Datura wrightii

Taxonomic Info:
Datura wrightii or “Sacred Datura” (aka: Moonflower) is the name of a poisonous perennial weed and ornamental flower of southwestern North America. It is sometimes used as a hallucinogen. Datura wrightii is classified as a deliriant and an anticholinergic.
It is a vigorous herbaceous perennial that grows 30 cm to 1.5 m tall and wide. The leaves are broad and rounded at the base, tapering to a point, often with wavy margins. The flowers are the most striking feature, being sweetly fragrant white trumpets up to 20 cm (8 inches) long, often tinted purple, especially at the margin. There are five narrow points spaced symmetrically around the rim. It can bloom from April to October. In clear weather, flowers open at nearly full dark and wither a few hours after sunrise the following morning; in cloudy weather, they may open earlier and last longer.
The seeds are borne in a spiny, globular capsule (Devil’s Apple) 3 to 4 cm in diameter, which opens when fully ripe. Datura wrightii is found in northern Mexico and the adjoining U.S. states, as far north as southern Utah, in open land with well-drained soils. It is also commonly planted as an ornamental, especially in xeriscapes.
The name commemorates the botanist Charles Wright.
I’m growing this plant, and it’s going to bloom tonight!!! Eeeeeeeeeeeee!!!

Datura wrightii bud; 3 days ago.

Datura wrightii bud; 2 days ago. (purple lips emerge)

Datura wrightii bud; last night. I was hopeful that it would open last night, so I did some time-lapse photography (10mins/6 hrs … coming in a later post). The bud just grew larger. What a disappointment.

Datura wrightii plant w/ 7″ bud; this A.M.

Yeah, it’s Friday… but I won’t be out tonight, because my geek ass is going to be doing more time-lapse photography of the bloom.
TONIGHT IS THE NIGHT!!!

Love the purple and how the bud is wrapped up.

is there anyway that you can hard-code my font to always be VERDANA and the word processor size “10″ (i guess that’s HTML size “2″) … that would cure a lot of my grief.
took me freakin’ an hour to get this post to look how i want it. im still not happy with it. but it looks better than the other 20 attempts.
if you didn’t notice while i was on the phone with you — im under the influence of 6 cups of coffee. my whole body is shaking like a rat on acid.

lol
I looked around on the different “options” and did not see anything like that. Looked through the style.css and saw there is a mixture of fonts in there. Don’t really feel like messing with it
I had a huge amaryllis a few years back. The bulb was 7 inches wide. Put up 3 awesome 2 foot stalks with gargantuan red flowers. I think it got stolen off my porch though

that is really cool. you, my friend, appear to have much more patience than me. I can’t grow anything. my old lady and I are having a hard time keeping our chives, basil, and parsley alive in the kitchen window.

those three plants need FULL/DIRECT light. that’s probably your problem.
in the winter i transfer all my plants to a hydroponic system (no pot, no no) … my basil loving the hydoponic system. it goes multiple inches everyday.
