freaky purple and lemon basil
6 Comments · Posted by beerorkid in lincoln sites, random crap

We are pretty lucky to have urban trail gardens a 1/2 block from us. We made our 4th or so trip there this weekend and got some pretty darn cool stuff. Two types of basil, one the purple pictured above, and one that was called lemon basil.
The purple has amazing aroma. According to the internets, it is more potent than the regular green. The lemon one is freaky. It smells exactly like lemon basil, who would of thunk?
We have a basil plant in the house that is huge and old. It gets used a bunch. We also picked up a few other herbs we are gonna mess with. Joy.

Is your basil an indoor plant? I would love to have something like that. I can’t stand spending nearly $3 for a few twigs of fresh basil in the store.
I can’t picture Urban Trails, where is that? I just drove down F Street the other day but I must have missed it.

yeah the basil we are using currently came from a chia herb garden my wife got as a gift. We have since moved it to a bigger pot and it is enormous. Just sits in front of a south facing window and goes crazy.
South west corner of 4th and F street. It used to be a beef jerky plant. Really cool they decided to locate there. Eventually 4th street will have the paved Jamaica North trail going right in front of it, which will be really awesome.
I was a little worried about their location, for them that is. But, they have been really busy. They seemed to have made a good choice. And the neighborhood is much more pleasant without the stench of the factory.

How bizarre. I must have driven right past it and not noticed it. Can’t wait to check it out!

Stopped in this morning and picked up some basil. I’ll plant some outdoors and try my hand at an indoor plant. Love the store and the vibe … and the fact that they located in a part of town that not many businesses are considering.
Lovely people, I’ll be back. I used to bike through there on my way to work and the farmer’s market but it was something of an obstacle course. It will be nice when the trail gets paved.

nice.
Yeah I am looking forward to the street getting some pavement as well. The amount of work that have to do on the road must cost more than just paving the dam thing. They grade and dump more rock every 2 months.
