Injured man jumped from pickup for his hat
A Lincoln man was in serious condition at BryanLGH Medical Center West after he jumped from the bed of a moving pickup truck Saturday afternoon at 19th Street and Center Park Road.
Garrick Cockle, 43, was sitting on the tailgate when his hat blew off. Lincoln Police Capt. Genelle Moore said Cockle then jumped from the truck, which was moving between 15 and 20 mph. He fell backwards after his feet hit the ground, causing head injuries.
Cockle appeared to be doing “OK,” Moore said later, and his injuries were not going to be life-threatening.
The driver of the 2004 Dodge Ram, 31-year-old Joshua Hays of 635 S. 42nd Street, was cited on suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol.
Moore said it was not clear whether Cockle had been drinking as well. He was not cited by police.
